iBet: Newcastle will find it tough going against Anzhi - The Independent (blog)

Europa Cup

Anzhi v Newcastle, kick off 5pm, ITV4

Back Anzhi at 7/10 and lay over 3.5 goals at 2.8/1 with Betfair
Lay Fenerbahce at 2.8/1

Newcastle have improved with their recent signings but they are going to find it very hard against big spending Anzhi. The Russians have lost only twice in their domestic league this season, both times away from home, and they won all seven of their Europa League home games, scoring 12 times and conceding just once. The season is back underway in Russia and the home side should be fully fired up, but three of those seven Europa Cup wins finished 1-0, and another three 2-0 and given that this is a first leg and that Newcastle will not be chasing the game even if they fall behind, there could also be money to be made by laying over 3.5 goals at under 3/1 with Betfair.

We profited by laying Napoli when they visited Viktoria Plzen in the last round – highlighting the Czech side's magnificent record on home soil. Plzen duly won the game without conceding. Fenerbahce come to town tonight but again the odds makers may not have fully taken into account that Plzen won all three Europa League Group games at home including a win over Atletico Madrid, scoring eight and conceding only one, and it may prove value to lay the Turkish side at the available 2.8/1 with Betfair.
