Emmanuel Frimpong has joined Fulham on loan from Arsenal for the remainder of the season. The 21-year-old midfielder has come to see his opportunities as limited at Arsenal and, after discussions with the manager, Arsène Wenger, he has opted to seek more regular football at Craven Cottage.
Wenger is currently without Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin to short-term injuries for Saturday's FA Cup tie at Brighton but he still has Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky at his disposal, who are considered to be in front of Frimpong in the pecking order.
Martin Jol, the Fulham manager, has been desperate to reinforce his midfield and he has made Tom Huddlestone of Tottenham Hotspur his priority target.
Jol signed Huddlestone from Derby County when he was manager at White Hart Lane. He also has an interest in another Tottenham midfielder, Jake Livermore, and the move for Frimpong will not stop him from pushing for one or both of them before the close of the winter transfer window.
Funds, however, are tight at Fulham and the opportunity to take Frimpong as cover was attractive. The Ghana-born player, who had only recently returned to the Emirates stadium from a six-week loan at Charlton Athletic in the Championship, is a product of the Arsenal academy and has made 16 first-team appearances for the club.
