Same again? Arsenal line up Lopez as replacement for Walcott - Mirror.co.uk

Arsenal have a move in their sights for Atletico Madrid's answer to Theo Walcott... contract rebel Adrian Lopez, writes The People.

Like Walcott, the 24-year-old Spaniard has spent long spells on the subs' bench this season after stalling on a new deal.

And he will be on the Gunners radar if they fail to agree terms with the England winger before the transfer window opens in January.

Lopez, who scored 18 goals last season, has a buy-out clause of around £15million in his current contract, a fee that won't scare off Arsenal.

Atletico are keen to tie Lopez down but that would mean putting up the cost of his release clause and the player is reluctant to do that.

Walcott is adamant he wants to sign a new contract at Arsenal but talks remain deadlocked.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has told Walcott he won't get a starting role until he puts pen to paper on a new deal.
