Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini hits back at jibes from Real Madrid ... - Telegraph.co.uk

"I don't know Abramovich, so I don't know the situation," he said. "All I can say is that I am happy to work with my owners and my chairman. They are good men, they understand the situation. They know it is impossible to win every game.

"We can be disappointed, because we wanted to play the February stage of the Champions League. We have very good players, but we don't have pressure. We know we have a chance to win, but we have to stay together in a difficult moment like now."

He also intimated that City's stealthy progress on the domestic front, moving top of the Premier League with a 19-match unbeaten streak.

"Sometimes, yes because we are Manchester City, not Real Madrid or Manchester United, who used to win every year for 100 years and have big history. We are Manchester City and for 35 years we didn't win, but in two years we won three trophies. Now we want to win every year but in football it is not possible."

Mancini does at least hold one advantage over Sunday's opposite number Rafael Benítez, given their respective records at Inter: while he won three successive scudetti there, the Spaniard lasted just six months in the job before his sacking in Dec 2010. "I know him, not very well, but as a manager I spoke with him many times before he went to Inter," Mancini said.

"He asked me a few things about Inter. You need to be very strong, because Inter are a top club, just not with the same passions as here in England."
