For Chelsea to get a positive result tonight, I think they will have to score, meaning their lone centre-forward whether it is Fernando Torres, who was incredibly poor at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, or Daniel Sturridge must be cute with his movement to offer his team-mates a decent pass. This is a problem area for Chelsea that must worry Di Matteo.
4 Block danger On the left side of the home attack, Kwadwo Asamoah offers a powerful threat with his direct brand of running. Branislav Ivanovic will know that having faced the Ghanaian at the Bridge.
This time, though, Chelsea's right-back might be better served by holding his position for the most part, resisting those forward bursts that have proved such a feature of his game this season. Stronger on his left foot, Asamoah loves to go around the outside before driving in a cross.
Ivanovic should therefore steer him inside towards Gary Cahill. The last thing Chelsea want is to see balls constantly fizzing across the face of goal.
5 Be solid and stubborn Chelsea's general attitude could hold the key. Do they continue with their new expansive, adventurous approach that can be scintillating to watch but also leaves the team vulnerable at the back?
Or do they temper that style by becoming more solid in terms of the shape and the personnel picked? Roman Abramovich, of course, prefers the former. But he will not be moaning too much at the end of tonight if Chelsea come away with a point or three having been solid and stubborn, having been disciplined and organised to the point they resemble last term's winning outfit.
There is nothing like a bit of good old-fashioned finger-pointing to sort things out. Those raised voices at the Hawthorns should do some good.
