Manchester United to rip up pitch and adopt part-synthetic playing surface at ... - Telegraph.co.uk

United will provide the opposition when Swansea grant their long-serving defender Alan Tate a testimonial.

New United manager David Moyes is to send a Select XI to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday, Aug 13 to mark the occasion.

Tate started his career at Old Trafford but joined Swansea for the first of two loan spells in 2002, before making the move permanent in 2004.

He said: "I spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson before he announced his retirement and he was really supportive. I had some great times at Old Trafford as a schoolboy, apprentice and a young professional."
