Galatasaray's interest in the Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi is to prompt a bid for the Nigerian international, most likely at the conclusion of the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Mikel, one of five senior players who remain on the books at Stamford Bridge from José Mourinho's first spell in charge at the club, is aware of the Turkish champions' intent but is not agitating to leave. The 26-year-old will instead gauge Chelsea's reaction to any offer that is tabled – it would have to exceed £12m for a player who is contracted until 2017 – and then scrutinise what personal terms Gala would put forward to entice him to Istanbul.
The midfielder, who started 19 league games last term through an injury-interrupted campaign, played the whole game for Nigeria in Wednesday's World Cup qualifying draw in Namibia, a match staged on an artificial pitch to prompt some concern among Chelsea's medical staff given Mikel's problems with back and hip complaints. He will travel with the national squad on Saturday to Brazil where they will compete in the Confederations Cup having won the African Cup of Nations this year.
