There were fears he may never play again but Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher received a tonic on Wednesday when he was named in David Moyes's 25-man squad for the Premier League season.

The Scotland captain has played just 13 games since being forced to take an extended break from football in 2011 after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.

He was named in the squad submitted to the League but still may not return until at least November and was left out of United's Champions League squad which was given to UEFA.

A surprise name in Arsenal's Premier League squad is Nicklas Bendtner, who was heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace during the transfer window.

Liverpool have started the season superbly but Brendan Rodgers could only find 19 names to put down as homegrown players, although the likes of first-team regular Coutinho are on a lengthy Under 21s list.

Someone who will just be happy to play is Aston Villa's Charles N'Zogbia, but the signs do not look good after manager Paul Lambert yesterday relieved the 9.5million winger of his favoured No 10 shirt.

Other players who have been shoved down the pecking order by Lambert have ended up leaving so it sends a worrying message to N'Zogbia, who is on the sidelines until the new year as he recovers from injury. His No 10 shirt goes to Andreas Weimann.

Best of Luck Fletch!!!

All the best Darren. Hope you can remain healthy for the rest of your career - from a Liverpool fan.

Thanks to the humorist- perhaps you haven't realised that everyone else has strengthened and Utd have only signed Fellaini??

Sure you already posted an article saying he wouldn't be in the squad consistency at its finest!!! - joshuatoothill , Bradford West Yorkshire, 04/9/2013 22:54 + + + + + + The other article was about the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE squad submitted to UEFA, this is about the premier league. That reading thing is a tough one to master isn't it?

He's finished, end of story

Who agrees with me??United have the worst midfield in the top 5 of the premier league and would not be able to sell any of the existing ensemble to any of their challengers- with the possible exception of Carrick. - wilbur60 , Brackley uk, 04/9/2013 23:07 + + + + + + + Agree, if only they had a better midfield, they could have won the premiership last season, if only..........
