The fervour to see United on the field, however, is palpable in a country who are still celebrating qualification for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. Saturday's exhibition game is a sell out at the same stadium that recently witnessed a series victory for the British and Irish Lions.
Moyes brought his Everton team Down Under three years ago, but admitted that life on the road with United is something different altogether.
"The amount of support we've had, the amount of interest we've had from you people (the media), we're constantly watched and scrutinised and it's something I'll have to come to terms with.
"Sir Alex told me what to expect, especially what the tours would be like. I think if you have a club like Manchester United you have to go to your supporters worldwide."
Nine first team regulars were absent from United's opening match of their tour, with youngsters like Adnan Januzaj and Wilfred Saha given game time.
Rooney is back in Manchester while Nemaja Vidic was excused the trip to manage his sciatica. Robin van Persie and David de Gea will join the squad in Sydney, after being given rest time following international commitments, which will strengthen the manager's hand.
Moyes was also able to report that both Ashley Young and Chris Smalling have begun light training back home following injury
