Latest live scores from the Championship: Derby v Leicester (5.20pm)

Follow Sportsmail's coverage of the Barclays Premier League as Manchester United host Reading at Old Trafford to conclude Saturday's action.

Sir Alex Ferguson's team will aim to maintain their healthy advantage at the top of the table as they look to keep up an unbeaten domestic record that stretches back to November spanning 21 games in their pursuit of regaining the title.

The Royals meanwhile are up against it when they travel north, having sacked manager Brian McDermott following a run of five straight losses in all competitions that left them just one place off the bottom and four points from safety going into the weekend.

28min: Reading are struggling to keep United at bay here as now Rooney fancies his luck from 30 yards, only to see his shot produce a straight forward save from Taylor.

27min: Great play from Welbeck. The striker injects pace into his run from the halfway line which takes him past a couple of defenders before he drags a low 23-yard shot wide of the target.

24min: From OptaJoe:

7 - Wayne Rooney has scored seven goals in eight games at Old Trafford in 2013 (all comps). Resolution.

21min: GOAL! MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 Reading

It doesn't take long for United to breakthrough, but they need a slice of luck to do so. Ferdinand does very well to surge through the centre of the park before playing a short pass to Wayne Rooney on the edge of the box. The striker's shot then takes a big deflection off Alex Pearce before looping past Stuart Taylor and into the back of the net.

18min: United are starting to warm up now as the tempo in their passing increases. Rooney's cross from the right is cleared by the Royals but moments later Danny Welbeck drives a shot that just clears the crossbar.

Eye for a pass: Rio Ferdinand plays a long ball

15min: Right we are underway now. Rio Ferdinand finds Ashley Young with a brilliant crossfield pass, but after cutting inside the box, the winger's shot from an acute angle flies across the goal and off target.

13min: Signs of the game coming to life as United win a set-piece on the left...but Wayne Rooney's free-kick is easily headed clear by the Royals.

12min: And still Reading remain comfortable as we await our first probing pass, never mind a goal or even a shot (on target or otherwise.)

9min: Nine minutes of very uneventful 'action' at Old Trafford. On that evidence it's a job being well done by Reading so far who have looked very comfortable with the ball bogged down in the centre.

6min: From OptaJoe:

0 - None of the previous 10 managers (incl. caretakers) to travel to Old Trafford in their first PL game in charge have won (D1 L9). Tough.

3min: A low-key start with neither side really going on the offence so far. Reading, sensibly, are sitting a little deeper in defence than the home side.

Kick-off: Away we go then with a few dotted empty red seats around the ground.

17.30: Interesting little gesture from Rio Ferdinand to his keeper David De Gea before the game, with the defender making a hand gesture to encourage the Spaniard to do a lot of talking and help organise the defence.

17.27: Out come the players on an overcast evening at Old Trafford:

17.24: From InfostradaLive:

Alexander Buttner makes his 2nd PL appearance for Man United today. His last app was when he scored in a 4-0 home win v Wigan on September 15.

17.21: Reading caretaker boss Eamonn Dolan also spoke to ESPN:

'I've been in football since I was 16. I played the game at the highest level and been a manager so this is just another exciting day.

'The players have shown this week the quality we have and hopefully they'll show that on the pitch.'

17.18: Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson spoke to ESPN before the game:

'We've got several players going into international duty. After the disappointment of going out in the Champions League, the players have seen the emotion get to them. I've got a fantastic squad and got to use them all. What matters is we win today.'

17.13: From InfostradaLive:

Man United are unbeaten in their last 33 home PL matches against promoted clubs since a 2-1 defeat v Bolton on October 20, 2001.

Kylie Minogue was number 1 in the UK charts with 'Can't Get You Out of My Head'. Only Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs remain at the club from the United players that played that day.

Scholes was 26 at the time and Giggs 27. Current United player Phil Jones was just 9-years-old.

17.10: Full line-ups from Old Trafford:

17.05: Sir Alex Ferguson makes eight changes to his Manchester United starting line-up as they look to tighten their grip on the Premier League title against Reading at Old Trafford.

Alexander Buttner, Chris Smalling and Anderson are all included, as is Rio Ferdinand, who has a big decision ahead of him after being called up by England boss Roy Hodgson for the World Cup qualifiers with San Marino and Montenegro.

Manchester City's defeat at Everton earlier today means the Red Devils will go 15 points clear with nine games remaining if they win, and following the dismissal of Brian McDermott, temporary Royals boss Eamonn Dolan opts to do without the services of Adam La Fondre.

17.00: Third time lucky for Reading? The Royals have already lost twice to Manchester United this season and being stuck in a relegation fight, this could be the last time they meet the Red Devils in a long while.

Either way having sacked Brian McDermott during the week, the Royals need a bit of fortune this evening if they are to salvage anything at Old Trafford.
