The Daily Mirror reports that two potential targets to take over the Stamford Bridge hot seat have been approached by the club: Malaga and former Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini and Juventus manager Antonio Conte.
That means that Mourinho is set to again be ignored by Roman Abramovich, who runs the risk of irking Blues fans with a managerial appointment for a second time in a year.
Incoming Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola is ready to go head-to-head with Real Madrid in the battle for £50 million-rated Gareth Bale.
Superlatives for the Tottenham ace have been ubiquitous this week and Guardiola too has clearly been impressed by what he has seen of the Welshman; he will be given a £100m war chest in the summer, £50m of which he is willing to splash on Bale, according to the Daily Mail.
The paper says: "It is widely acknowledged that Real are the favourites to land the Wales man when he finally leaves White Hart Lane. But Guardiola, who assembled the Barcelona team who have dominated Spanish and European football in recent years, is ready to rival Real for Bale."
To offset the loss of such a potent attacking threat, Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is plotting a swoop for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
The Daily Telegraph reports that AVB wants to join the summer race for the Belgian striker and has made him a "priority transfer target for next season".
The paper adds that Arsenal have also scouted the £15m-rated Benteke, while Chelsea and Manchester City have also had him watched.
Talking of City, the Premier League champions look set to fight it out with Bayern Munich for Napoli's Edinson Cavani in the summer transfer window.
That's according to a Daily Express report, which claims the Uruguayan is top of City's wish list, although he is also on the radar of Real Madrid.
The Express reports that Manchester United have been given further reason to believe they can land Robert Lewandowski in the summer.
The Borussia Dortmund striker's agent confirmed United's interest in the Pole, while at the same time dismissing reported interest from Bayern Munich (who are clearly going to be linked with anybody and everybody until the summer).
Meanwhile, Liverpool are monitoring Spartak Moscow striker Emmanuel Emenike in a bid to cover their backs should Luis Suarez leave Merseyside this summer, to either Barcelona or Manchester City.
The Nigerian, who would cost in the region of £10m, is also being watched by Arsenal and Reading, according to the Express.
And finally, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez will give Portuguese veteran right back Miguel Monteiro a second chance to impress at the DW Stadium, claims the Mirror.
The former Valencia defender didn't show up the last time he was invited over to Wigan, but Martinez is willing to take another look at him in training ahead of a possible deal with the free agent.
