Yohan Cabaye will miss Newcastle's Capital One Cup tie at Morecambe on Wednesday as he continues to refuse to play for the club.

Arsenal target Cabaye had already refused to play in Newcastle's opening Premier League games - against Manchester City and West Ham - and sits out the first cup tie of the season.

Toon boss Alan Pardew said: 'He either stays or he goes but he will not play tomorrow that's for sure. The answer to this is not simple. He is either going to be sold and we have to replace him in the window we have left or he will say.

'As the manager of Newcastle United I have to protect him but the first thing I have to protect is club, and trust me that is first on the agenda while I am here.'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants his fellow Frenchman at the Emirates Stadium and bid 10million for the 27-year-old.

The Magpies, who paid Lille 5m for cabaye in 2011, are braced for another bid for a player they value at closer to 20m.

Wigan's James MCCarthy, rated around 15m, has been touted as a potential replacement for Cabaye if Arsenal meet the asking price.

Pardew added: 'I respect the opinions our fans have but I don't want to comment any further. There is no update I am going to give you. There are no further offers.

Better to try and get Ozil for 40m than Kebab for 20m.

I can't believe we are even bidding for him. Not the position or type of player we need but i guess wenger needs to buy a number of Frenchmen every year.

What are you waiting for, Arsene? Newcastle wants to move on so hurry and get the deal sorted!

Stop suggesting sacking him, that just frees him from his contract and he can sign for whoever he wants for nothing, and get a huge signing on fee. Clubs must stand up to these selfish Divas, Bale, and Cabaye this time, could be anyone next time. sure money talks but until the deal is done train and play. Like a professional should.

Can't blame him for wanting to play for a quality club instead of the joke club Newcastle. He probably also fancies living somewhere more civilised than the north east.

Extremely disrespectful to the fans. We pay his wages with our hard earned cash through tickets and he spits his dummy out. He should be fined every game he refuses to play and made to train alone until this is resolved. Give him a real reason to be a huffy child

Wow, I'd be suprised if Wenger would sign him with this attitude.

"How far have Arsenal fallen...trying to unsettle Newcastle players in hopes of signing them...pathetic club" I bet you wish your own club hadn't unsettled Andy Carroll, that little deal cost your club a pathetic 20 million.....ouch.

Of all the players who have left newcastle in recent years, Bassong, Beye, MArtins,Owen, Given, Ba etc, I can't think of one who has improved or done anything since leaving. I know Martins won the league cup with Birmingham and Given might have won an Fa cup and league title with Man City,, but if Cabaye goes to Arsenal I think he can be added to the list of not achieving anything. Newcastle are a mess at the moment but the grass is not always greener.
