Manchester United hope to have a 12million deal to bring Wilfried Zaha to Old Trafford wrapped up early this week.

The transfer of the 20-year-old forward will represent the biggest cash advance from a Premier League club to a Championship club in history - bigger than the fees paid to Southampton by Arsenal for Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

On his way: Zaha is expected to complete his move to United next week

Palace have always held out for 12m citing the fact Walcott had only played a few games for Saints in 2005 and that Oxlade-Chamberlain had not played at a higher level than League One before his move.

Zaha will earn 35,000-a-week at Old Trafford but will be sent back to Palace on loan until the end of the season. Arsenal are the other club in for him but he is expected to opt for United.

Star: Zaha has been in fine form this season for Palace

Zaha has been tracked by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson ever since he impressed in Palace's shock Carling Cup win at Old Trafford back in November 2011.

The Ivory Coast-born star has been in sensational form for Palace this season and made his England debut against Sweden in November.

Starsky. Self pity city. Go find Hutch.

Sams town. Nearly bedtime.(6pm) GET TO BED. Hope you've done your homework for school.

Best of luck now you are joining United and good luck with your fast tracking into the senior England squad. I just hope your route is not blocked by all the other United academy youngsters!

@jamecroydon Think if you were in his shoes though, you have a chance to play for one of the worlds biggest and greatest sides, in the EPL with a chance to compete in the Champions League. Why shouldn't he grab the chance whilst it is there?

jamescroydon, sadly, this is the world we live in. You can't blame a player for wanting to better himself, (world famous club, 75,000 fans every home game, Champions league, massive wages...etc) and you can't blame a club for wanting to cash in, (he could get injured next week and be worth nothing). Yes, he probably could do with another year or two learning his trade but in his position what would you do?

Do they need another winger? Not playing time coming for a long time. You should buy central midfielder sorry to say but Pogba is doing great job in juventus. - tobyz , London, 20/1/2013 12:44 If only we had you as manager instead of that fool Sir Alex Ferguson.

This really winds me up I pay to watch palace every week zaha is class . He has over a four year contract left we are challenging for promotion why should we even have to think about selling ? If we was allready in the priamer league why would you sell your star player we have someone in zaha to Br proud off producing keeping him would bring so much to palace then selling him , I understand about if a player wants to go then its hard to keep them but at least wait until he has a few more years we should have never even let them think thay could get him not for sale would have made us all proud of the board

More quality to the club. City you have no chance. You will be no where us come what May. Zaha and Cleverley future centre midfield partnership with Carrick acting as defensive mid. Dream stuff.

He looks good on YouTube but appears to finish most of his moves laying on the floor.

More fabrication and where are United getting all ths money from anyway ? 400m in debt............ yet they have the nerve to castigate City for lavish spending --HYPOCRITES--- - Agueroooooooo , manchester, -------- Errr a big income.
