Manchester United - Braga Betting Preview: Expect a home win but Portuguese ... - Goal.com

Manchester United haven't been at their best this season domestically or in Europe but they still find themselves well-placed in all competitions – particularly the Champions League, in which they have stuttered to maximum points from their opening two games.

A win at home to Braga on Tuesday would surely ensure there will no repeat of the disappointment of last season in which the three-time champions failed to negotiate their group.

Sir Alex Ferguson appears confident that will not happen again and has already declared that Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra will be rested for this one.

United are 1/3 (1.33) favourites with Bet365 to claim the three points that will take them to the nine-point mark with three matches to spare.

Braga will have to cause an upset to deny them victory but it's worth noting that Basel and Benfica both picked up draws at Old Trafford at this stage last season.

The draw is at 17/4 (5.25) with Bet365 while the more unlikely Braga victory is priced at 8/1 (9.00).

In the goalscorer markets, after failing to find the net in the opening six games of the season, Wayne Rooney has now scored five goals in three games for club and country – he's 15/4 (4.75) to score first here.

There may also be a run-out for Mexico international Javier Hernandez and he's at 5/1 (6.00) with Bet365 to break the deadlock on Tuesday.

But slow starts have been a feature of United's season so far and that influences the value bet here.

The Red Devils have conceded the opening goal in seven of their 11 games this season.

And the man most likely to make it eight in 12 is Braga's top league goalscorer this season, Eder.

The Portugal international is an industry-best price of 16/1 (17.00) with Bet365 to score first in this one and that's a great value bet.

But United have gone on to win five of those seven games, and for the pick of the bets it's impossible to look beyond a victory for Ferguson's men. The 1/3 (1.33), although a skinny price when taken in isolation, could form the basis of a profitable multiple for this week's games.
