Manchester City have recalled Dedryck Boyata from his loan at the Eredivisie side FC Twente.
A statement on City's website read: "The Belgian defender could well continue his education at another club in the coming weeks having played just eight games for Steve McClaren's side."
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan with Bolton, but was unable to prevent them from being relegated to the Championship.
City have also revealed that the Italian striker Luca Scapuzzi, 21, has joined the Serie B side AS Varese on loan until the end of the season.
