Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise was topping the charts, the film adaptation of SNES classic Mortal Kombat was somehow top of the box office, Newcastle were top of the Premier League and Manchester City were rooted to the bottom, having only picked up two points from their opening 11 games.
Crazy times. It was also the date that a young midfielder by the name of Frank Lampard scored his only league goal for Swansea.
Tonight, a somewhat older Lampard and his Chelsea team-mates will be looking to put the knife in to the Swansa in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final. Can the Swans cause another upset? Can anyone beat Bradford? It's all go...
