Manchester United Wayne Rooney targets Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring ... - Telegraph.co.uk

World Cup winner Charlton also holding the international record, with 49 goals for England. Rooney has 32 goals for his country and believes he has time on his side to overhaul both of Charlton's milestones.

"Sir Bobby Charlton holds both so that's a great challenge." Rooney said. "The guy is a legend and is such a presence around the club.

"If I could break his record as Manchester United's top goalscorer and maybe even England's… wow! That is such a great incentive.

"I want to play as long as I can and to have shared a dressing room with the likes of Giggsy and Paul Scholes is inspiration to do just that. At least another 10 years would be great."

Despite Giggs, who celebrates his 39th birthday later this month, adopting yoga as part of his fitness regime in recent years, Rooney admits he is unlikely to follow his veteran team-mate's example on that front.

"I'm not sure about yoga," he said, "but to be fair, we all have different regimes and a fantastic sports science team at United, so I'm confident I can keep going almost as long as both of them."
