Manchester United and Arsenal warned Stoke will not consider selling Asmir ... - Telegraph.co.uk

"He is one of the best young goalkeepers in the league and we feel he can get better and better. It's only natural that the bigger clubs will be looking at him but nothing will happen this season.

"Our ideal scenario would be seeing Asmir spend the next three years here and helping us progress. He's on a good long-term contract and will be staying."

Coates is also optimistic that Stoke skipper Ryan Shawcross will sign a new six-year contract at the Britannia Stadium.

Shawcross has been in negotiations since the summer but Coates expects the England international to finally agree a deal that will make him the joint top earner before the end of the year.

Coates said: "We are getting closer and hopefully we can get something sorted soon because Ryan, like Asmir and Robert Huth, is the bedrock of our football club."
