Arsène Wenger admits negative pressure has affected his Arsenal players this ... - Telegraph.co.uk

"The team has certainly been deeply affected by all the negativity and as well by the fact they are highly focused to do well. Everyone of us is affected by criticism. I didn't meet one person who loves to be slaughtered. The team want to do well. But sometimes that can be a bit inhibitive. I think it's mainly down to that."

The arrival of Monreal from Malaga could not have come at a better time for Wenger after the Arsenal manager revealed that Kieran Gibbs could be ruled out for up to two months with a thigh strain and he will miss the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.

Wenger said: "Our scouts have followed his [Monreal's] progress for a while and of course we had a blow with the Gibbs injury, which is a bit longer than expected. We expected two to three weeks, it will be four to six."
