But Prestbury only ranks eighth in a new table of Premier League property hotspots.

Oxshott in Surrey, home to ex-England captain John Terry and Jamie and Louise Redknapp, heads the list put together by property website Zoopla.co.uk which shows that average property prices there are £1,456,865. Hampstead in north London is in second place at £1,068,955, an area which is a favourite among Arsenal players including Andrei Arshavin.

Esher in Surrey is also popular – residents include Chelsea and England star Frank Lampard and wife Christine Bleakley, Ashley Cole and Gary and Danielle Lineker. The average property prices here are £756,016.

In terms of price rise, Cobham in Surrey – home to Chelsea FC's training ground – comes out on top. Average house prices in the area have risen 6.3% since February 2012. In second place is Hale in Cheshire, home to Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic, where average property values have gone up by 5.90% over the last year.

Alderley Edge in Lancashire – whose current and former property residents include Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Gareth Barry and  Joe Hart – has an average property price of £472,821 according to the figures from Zoopla (a partner of The Independent). Former residents include Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

Elsewhere, David and Victoria Beckham, are now property-hunting in London as they relocate from Los Angeles. Currently renting a £20,000,000 house in south London, they are rumoured to be considering buying in either Notting Hill (average property value £1,284,353) or Primrose Hill (£920,789).
